What’s in a name? When I first conceptualized LocoMotion Fitness it was based on my need for dance fitness classes that were low impact with smooth transitions and no twisting of the knees; i.e. safe for a knee replacement. The name came from how I saw myself in the mirror during classes; the joy and passion were there, but the movements looked a little crazy, “loco.” After beating my body up playing sports when I was younger and eventually having a total knee replacement, I just couldn’t move the way I did when I was 30. In my mind, my body was as fluid, flexible, and on beat as it was 30 years ago; my mind’s eye obviously needed glasses. So while the name LocoMotion Fitness reflects how this active older adult moves, it doesn’t reflect the types of classes I teach nor my local roots.
Pending registration of a new name, LocoMotion Fitness will be rebranded to reflect the classes and the company’s roots. Along with a new look and name, I am hoping to add a new dance fitness format to the Zumba Gold® classes already available.
Stay tuned for more information regarding these exciting new changes.
