Come for the FITNESS….Stay for the FUN….Leave with new FRIENDS.
If you’ve never tried dance fitness or it’s been awhile, here’s your chance to fall in love for the first time (or all over again) with a gentle exercise that is a bona fide full-body workout. Classes run September through June.

We “dance” on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. in our host studio Innovate Dance Arts, 115-425 Stanford Avenue in Parksville, BC (at the back of the complex fronted by Arrowsmith Brewing). Classes are independent of Innovate Dance Arts, and they will refer inquiries to me.
House Rules
While we do rent studio time from Innovate Dance Arts, we are also guests in their house. As a formal dance studio, there is special dance flooring (Marley) in the studio. This flooring is easily damaged by dirt and gravel tracked in by outdoor shoes. Out of respect for our hosts, we must comply with their request to not wear outdoor shoes in the studios. This means changing to “indoor” shoes once we arrive at the studio. Shoes must still have smoother soles (not rugged or deeply grooved like walking or hiking shoes) so as to not stick to the floor, increasing risks for falls. As this is the only house rule, it will be strictly enforced.
Minimums and Maximums
Due to flexible payment/attendance options, class sizes fluctuate so there is a 4-person minimum to put a class on the calendar. I require commitments prior to booking studio time on the 28th of each month. If your reservation was required to meet the minimum for a class, you have financially committed to that class.
There is also a class maximum of 10. This gives everyone room to move freely and safely. If you do not reserve a spot on the dance floor, you will not be allowed to participate if the class is full.
In the interest of your safety, there are no exceptions to the minimums and maximums; they will be strictly adhered to.
Reservations, Cancellations, and No-Shows
Reservations: Due to limited class sizes, everyone must reserve spots on the dance floor. Monthly passholders get reservation priority – before the 16th of the preceding month – and can make long-term reservations, September-June. Reservations are deemed locked-in after the 16th. Payment is due by the end of the preceding month. Punch cardholders and drop-ins can reserve the remaining spots for the upcoming month only starting on the 16th. Email me at kiwadancefitness@gmail.com, to book your spot on the dance floor.
Once a class is fully booked, I will start a waitlist for that class. If I get a cancellation, I will email the first person on the list. So everybody who wants to dance gets the chance, you have 4 hours to confirm you want the spot that has come available. After that I will go to the next person on the list. I will usually only put 3 people on a waitlist so if you are on the list, you have hope.
Cancellations and changes now require at least 2 days’ notice. To cancel/change a Tuesday class, let me know by noon on Sunday. To cancel/change a Wednesday class, let me know by noon on Monday. To cancel/change a Thursday class, let me know by noon on Tuesday. The earlier you cancel the better chance I have to “sell” your spot to someone on the waitlist.
If I have to cancel a class, only those who have reserved a spot will be notified. In this case, credits or refunds will be offered.
If you are a monthly passholder, you will get a credit if I can sell your spot when you cancel a class.
If you are a punch cardholder and make a late cancellation, you will not save a punch unless I can sell your spot.
No-Shows: No credits or saved punches.
Rates
Your first class is FREE. Because all instructors are different – music, intensity, moves – you may have to try a couple of classes to find the right fit for you, this gives you a no-obligation chance to try my class.
Drop in: If your schedule only allows for you to join us on the dance floor randomly, pending space availability, you can drop in to any class on the schedule for $7. You still must reserve your spot on the dance floor. Please do not show up without a reservation as most classes are sold out with a waitlist.
Punch cards: Punch cards are ideal if your schedule requires flexibility and there is a good chance you may have to change/cancel a reservation. The per class rate is $6; a 5-class punch card is $30 or a 10-class punch card is $60. Valid for any class on the schedule pending space availability. Punch cards are non-expiring so no refunds. You must reserve your spot on the dance floor.
Monthly passes: Monthly passes offer the lowest per class rate. If your schedule allows you to reserve your spots at the beginning of the month, as long as you prepay at least 4 classes on specified days (do not have to be the same day each week but cannot be “specified later”), the per class rate is $5.
Anyone who prepays but then cancels ALL of their reservations to the 28th, a full refund or credit will be given.
Payment
Cash or e-transfer is acceptable. Please be sure you are using the correct email for transfers.
Potential New Classes
NEW CLASS UPDATE: All new classes are currently on hold until I retire from my part-time day-job as a medical transcriptionist. Scheduling of additional dance fitness or new classes will be dependent on suitable time slots at our host studio, a new venue option, or a partnership with the RDN.
Based on the formats I have studied over the past couple of years, I am working on a couple of ideas for fusion classes. My future plan is to be certified as an instructor for resistance band training.
Ideas on the go right now include CrosSit or Dance Sit-ness (working titles) a fusion of seated exercise with dance fitness and DanzaBarre (working title) would combine gentle dance and barre exercises (not ballet moves) for core strength and balance using your own body weight. A future option pending additional certification, Barre Band (working title), would incorporate gentle dance breaks with resistance band strength moves using the barre as a stabilizer.
Communication
With our ever-growing ohana and class schedule, I have to do some streamlining of administration and communication. Please ensure I have a working email address for you. Check below to see how relevant information will be relayed.

Monthly newsletters will be emailed on the 3rd Wednesday of each month. There will also be a reminder in the email to make your commitment for the next month.

The calendar will be posted on Facebook along with pass rates. By special request only, the calendar can be emailed to those not on Facebook.

If we are short of the minimum, a “last call” will be posted around the 26th of the month. If I don’t have sufficient interest by the 28th, a class may not be scheduled. Reserve your spot kiwadancefitness@gmail.com.

Prior to the beginning of each week, I will post the number of spots on the dance floor that are still open for each class. Reserve your spot kiwadancefitness@gmail.com.

This will be posted on the Facebook page when a classes is fully booked. Please email kiwadancefitness@gmail.com to cancel a reservation or to be put on the waitlist.

This will be posted on the Facebook page when I have to cancel a class. Image will vary.
Schedule
The monthly calendars and pass rates are posted on Facebook on the 28th of each month. https://www.facebook.com/kiwadancefitness/
